Not so long ago there lived a very kind man named Carl Anderson, who was born in Sweden in 1891. He was my wife Betty's great uncle, and this wonderful man was a huge influence in her life. He would tell her when she was a child, that if you were very kind to people during your stay here on earth, when you went to heaven, you would become an elf in Santa's workshop. |

What a wonderful thought! I was fortunate to know Carl for four years , and I cannot think of anyone who would make a better Santa. In his honor, Betty created a charming characature of his wonderful face, capturing his delightfully innocent outlook on life in her carving. So, in his memory, here is SantaCarls® with his wife Katarina and his little friend Rischmaukk, the elf that lives in his hat. These characters are off to have a world of fun together. I wonder what they will be doing next? |

Betty Padden designs one new SantaCarls® each year. New ideas come from Carl himself in the form of the things he liked to do. The carvings portray the kind of person he was, his endearingly innocent personality, and his sense of joy and whimsy.Betty has created different editions of the SantaCarls® series, with 6 being sold out and retired. Because these carvings are hand-made by Betty in her studio in Auburn, Massachusetts, quantities are extremely limited. Betty is currently working on the newest piece in the SantaCarls® series, called the Skier. It will be available in the fall of 2001. Be sure to get your order in right away! These beautiful pieces are carved out of clear white pine and finished with shaded washes of oil paints, then decorated with appropriate accessories. It takes approximately 30 to 35 hours to carve, paint, and decorate each SantaCarls®. These wonderful carvings range in height from 15 to 22 inches. In the past, SantaCarls® were sold in Christmas shops throughout the country including the shops in Disney World, Disneyland, and Anheuser-Busch's Old Country in Williamsburg, Virginia. Because of the extremely limited production, the artist has decided to offer SantaCarls® exclusively from her studio (please note that these carvings have not been offered for resale for 2 years). |
