	The Wooden Apple offers both relief and chip carved signs. Relief carving is our most detailed and impressive method of carving. The artwork is raised off the background and carved using hand chisels to achieve a very dimensional and life-like appearance. Chip carving, or incized carving, is a less expensive yet very effective way to create your sign display. The artwork is carved into the face of the sign itself in a concave manner.
	Since 1989, we have primarily used a product called Medex to construct our signs. This product was originally designed to replace wooden highway signs. It is an exterior epoxy based wood composition that is extremely durable and water resistant, and it carves beautifully. It is far superior to wood of any kind for use in signmaking.
	Once your sign has been carved, it is finished with several coats of exterior latex primer followed by several more coats of exterior latex paint. Lettering is finished with high gloss enamel and/or gold leaf if ordered. Lastly, the artwork is carefully painted to give a detailed rendition of the original sketch. As you can see from the photos in our online gallery, we take our work to a much higher level of artistry than most other signs on the market, thus assuring that your business will get noticed!
